Document Icon Woes in SharePoint 2010

While developing a MOSS v3 to v4 migration test environment one of the users evaluating the result pointed to me the fact that clicking on a document icon in a document library no longer opens the file in MOSS v4.

This person felt this was a symptom of a migration error but in fact this behavior is by design in the new MOSS version.

Whereas in MOSS v3 when you clicked a document icon it instantly opened the file, in MOSS v4 the same click only selects the object and enables the document options in the ribbon.

If you want to replicate the icon click to open a document in MOSS v4 you only need to create an XSL file and copy it to the 14 hive. Read the full description of the procedure in the following link:
