Enable remote connections in SQL 2008 Express

A friend of mine needed to access a remote SQL 2008 Express database from within a helper class in BizTalk 2009, problem was the Express edition of SQL doesn’t accept remote connections by default.

If you want a SQL Express instance to be able to process connections coming from remote entity you need to perform the following easy steps:

1.- Log into the computer in which SQL Express is installed and enable the TCP/IP protocol in the Sql Server Configuration Manager.

Don’t forget to restart the service so the changes can be correctly applied.

2.- Finally you need to enable de SQL Server Browser Service

Once you’ve done this two actions you should be able to access the databases in the remote SQL Express instance without a glitch.
